2025 Team Previews:
West
Corning Hawks (Class A)
Head Coach: Tim Ball, 21st year
Key Players: Sam Masaki (sr.), Djordje Marjanovic (sr.), Jacob Chung (sr.), Derek Guo (soph.)
Team Goals: Always win every match. We graduated quite a few seniors this past year, so we'll be pretty inexperienced at doubles. It will be a challenge to find some competitive doubles teams to make us as strong as we were last year.
Last Season: Won STAC West division. Defeated Susquehanna Valley in Semi-final and Union-Endicott to win STAC Championship. Won Section IV Division 1 Team Championship. Lost to Monroe-Woodbury (IX) in NYSPHSAA Subregional.
Elmira Express (Class A)
Head Coach: Opal Golden, 2nd year
Key Players: Russel Lewis (sr.)
Team Goals: Elmira began their program last year, so we are still in the process of building a foundation for the future. The majority of the players are new to the game of tennis, so we are focusing on the fundamentals and improving each day.
Last Season: Fielded a varsity team but competed as an Independent. Each match was considered non-league in the standings.
Horseheads Blue Raiders (Class A)
Head Coach: Dustin McCullough, 5th year
Key Players: Ryan Burns (sr.), Dom Wood (soph.), Hayden Chatlani (sr.), Zach Kathan (sr.), Joseph Juan (jr.)
Team Goals: Gain more momentum as a team and compete at a higher level. With only one newcomer, we have 16 returners that had the same goal as last year. Change the narrative.
Last Season: Finished 3rd in STAC West division.
Ithaca Little Red (Class A)
Head Coach: Helen Evans, 2nd year (7th overall)
Key Players: Jonah Jacobstein (sr.), Orion Patie (sr.), Eh Lay Htoo (sr.), Gian Haring (jr.)
Team Goals: We finished second in the STAC West division last year and our goal is to finish first this year. We are hoping to do well in sectionals and state qualifiers with a trip to States.
Last Season: Finished 2nd in STAC West division. Won Section IV Class A Team Championship. Aiden Xie won Section IV Class A Singles Championship. Xie finished 3rd at State Qualifier and advanced to the Round of 32 at the NYSPHSAA Singles State Championship. Jonah Jacobstein / Kieran Shulman won Section IV Class A Doubles Championship. Jacobstein / Shulman finished 2nd at State Qualifier and advanced to the Round of 32 at the NYSPHSAA Doubles State Championship.

Maine-Endwell Spartans (Class B)
Head Coach: Bill Underwood, 3rd year (12th overall)

Team Goals: Have a winning record and compete for a Section IV Class B title. We need to keep developing our game throughout the season and qualify both a singles and doubles team into the state qualifiers.
Last Season: Finished 3rd in STAC Metro division.
Union-Endicott Tigers (Class A)
Head Coach: Steve Tibensky, 19th year
Key Players: Singles – JJ Herzing (sr.), Jacob Conti (jr.), Andy Mancini (jr.), Carter Holland (jr.); Doubles – Gabe Mancini (jr.) / Jack Kiernan (jr.), Finn Baird (sr.) / Noah Elliott (sr.), Aden Glover (sr.) / Luqman Adem (sr.); Others – Gavin Phetphongsy (soph.), Tristan Huff (sr.), Afnan Bajwa (soph.), Philip Lanza (soph.), Evan Swavola (soph.), Alex Palombaro (jr.), Trent Hanselman (soph.), Jack Golden (soph.)
Team Goals: Compete for the STAC and Section IV Class B Championships. We need a 4th singles player to “step up” this year and compete. This team is deep and talented. We have several sophomores who could surprise this season.
Last Season: Won STAC Metro division. Defeated Chenango Forks in Semi-final, lost to Corning in STAC Championship. JJ Herzing won Section IV Class B Singles Championship. Herzing won State Qualifier and advanced to the Round of 32 at the NYSPHSAA Singles State Championship.
Vestal Golden Bears (Class B)
Head Coach: Justin Barnes, 2nd year (4th overall)
Key Players: Praket Govindaraju (soph.), Jack Miller (sr.)
Team Goals: Be back-to-back Section IV Class B Champions and hopefully have another set of Vestal students go to States! Most importantly, however, I want everyone to HAVE FUN!

Head Coach: Terry Price, 15th year (35+ overall)
Key Players: Owen Stafford (soph.), Kainoa Tang-Chong (8th grade), Arin Miller (jr.), Tantawat Jampar (sr.)
Team Goals: Our micro goals are to get 75% of first serves in for our singles players. Our team goals are to have everyone improve their strategies during play, finish top three in sectionals, and get at least two players to state qualifiers.
Last Season: Finished 2nd in STAC Central division.
Owego River Hawks (Class B)
Head Coach: Erica Haray, 9th year
Key Players: Singles – Sam Beyer (jr.), DJ Cardone (jr.); Doubles – Grant Kersten (sr.) / Anakyn Basile-Crawford (jr.), Tanner Hayes (fresh.) / Scott Reigle (fresh.)
Team Goals: Further develop as individual tennis players, promote good sportsmanship, and compete and place at sectionals. As a program, our goal remains to grow the tennis programs and invite elementary and middle school students to play through our Summer Enrichment Tennis Camps.
Last Season: Finished 3rd in STAC Central division.
Waverly Wolverines (Class C - West)

East
Norwich Purple Tornado (Class B)

Key Players: Singles – Kristopher Deuel (sr.), William “Liam” Hunter (jr.), David “Vinny” Lawson (soph.), Joey Hall (jr.); Doubles – Phin Rivenburg (jr.)
Team Goals: A team goal for us this year would be to land in the top 5 in Section IV and I’d love to see a singles and doubles team make it to state qualifiers!
Last Season: Finished 3rd in STAC East division.
Oneonta Yellowjackets (Class C - East)
Head Coach: Gary Segal, 2nd year
Key Players: Singles – Dylan Shaughnessy (sr.); Caleb Christman (sr.); Ibraheem Khan (soph); Doubles – Simmone Segal (sr.)
Team Goals: The team has been working very hard this season already and we are fortunate to have the OTC Sports Center (two indoor heated courts) to practice in a few times a week. The line-up looks good! Our initial focus is to hit a lot of tennis balls from all sections and angles on the court. We have a routine of dynamic stretches and foot work frills that start every practice followed by static stretches as a cooldown every day. We have been working on explosive acceleration so we can get time on the ball to focus on the shot angles. This team is highly motivated to accel this season!
Last Season: Finished 2nd in STAC East division.
Susquehanna Valley Sabers (Class C - East)
Head Coach: Anthony Ruffo, 13th year
Key Players: Mitch Latini (jr.), Palmer Gendron (sr.)
Team Goals: Repeat as STAC East division champions.
Last Season: Won STAC East division. Lost to Corning in STAC Semi-final. Isaac Spottek won Section IV Class C Singles Championship. Spottek finished 4th at State Qualifier and advanced to the Round of 32 at the NYSPHSAA Singles Championship.

Team Goals: Win three matches this year.
Last Season: Finished 3rd in STAC East division.
****
Section Catholic Saints (will compete as an Independent this year, as each match will count as non-league in the standings)
Head Coach: Katie Hundley, 1st year (3rd overall)
Key Players: Reece Goodman (sr.), Simon Pangilinan (sr.)
Team Goals: Have a winning record for our first season as a new team. Continue to build up our new program and gain interest among younger athletes so we can keep boys tennis as a SCC team going forward. Our boys worked very hard to generate enough interest and excitement at the school to have their own varsity team apart from Binghamton High School, and we want this year to be just the beginning of a tradition of excellence in boys tennis at Seton!
Last Season: Combined program with Binghamton.
(* Note – Binghamton will not field a team this year, as they send their three players to compete at Johnson City.)
