STAC Division Tiebreaker System
Here is how ties are broken in STAC to determine division champions.
If TWO teams are tied for first place at the end of the regular season:
* If one team has won both of their STAC league scheduled games against the other team, that team is declared division champion.
* If both teams split their games (or if one game was tied in soccer), a one-game tiebreaker will be scheduled.
If THREE (or more) teams are tied for first place at the end of the regular season:
* Eliminate a team by:
• A loss of both scheduled STAC league games against either of the tied teams.
• Compare records against remaining teams in the division.
• Compare records against teams in the other division (West vs. Metro, Central vs. East).
* If three (or more) teams are still tied, there is a mini-playoff bracket:
• Teams are seeded based on the lowest points against in STAC league games only.
• For example, if three teams are still alive, the 1st seed (surrendered least points) receives a bye. 2nd seed hosts 3rd seed, then winner plays at the 1st seed.
* One-game tiebreaker:
• The home team will be the school that allowed the lowest points against in STAC league games only.
• NYSPHSAA regulations allow playoffs to determine division champions, and it will not count in total number of games allowed.
